Learning Outcomes:

On completion of this paper students will be able to:

LO1 Demonstrate an understanding of the philosophical foundations and concepts of art and design theory

LO2 Document art theory in terms of socio-historical developments linked to philosophical systems and explore the role of art criticism

LO3 Investigate and analyse different critical theories such as structuralism, semiotics, linguistics, desconstructionism, etc.

LO4 Discuss the effects of critical theory on new media

Assessment is achievement-based. To pass this paper a student must achieve a passing grade of at least 50% of the total aggregate of all the assessments in the paper. Assessment tasks may include written exams, written assignments, quizzes, presentations and interpretive activities. Students will receive an assessment schedule and detail about assessment requirements as soon as possible.
